Engineering discussion

Context before component selection.

N06600 combines a nickel base with chromium-bearing service context

Inconel 600 is a nickel-chromium alloy considered across chemical, heat-processing, and high-purity environments. Its actual use depends on the fluid, contaminants, oxidation potential, stress state, temperature, and fabrication route; the alloy name should never replace project corrosion and design review.

The forging route must remain visible through release

ASTM B564 includes N06600 forgings, but a complete order still names the grade, edition, heat-treatment condition, supplementary examinations, flange dimensions, and acceptance documents. The MTC and marking should reconcile with the same material-product route quoted to the buyer.

Temperature capability is not a single catalogue number

Allowable stress, pressure-temperature rating, oxidation environment, thermal cycle, flange joint design, bolting, and gasket selection are code and project decisions. Provide design and operating conditions so the technical offer can avoid an unsupported universal temperature claim.

Standards and release

Define the basis, then document it.

ASTM B564 / ASME SB564

The current ASTM B564 forging scope includes UNS N06600. Confirm the ordered edition, product form, heat treatment, mechanical acceptance, and supplementary requirements.

ASME B16.5 / project dimensions

Specify flange type, NPS, class, RF or RTJ facing, bore, gasket interface, tolerances, and the dimensional edition or approved drawing.

Service qualification

Process medium, temperature, pressure, thermal cycling, fabrication, and design-code limits must be reviewed before material acceptance.

Buyer questions

Frequently asked questions.

Does ASTM B564 include UNS N06600 forgings?

Yes, the current ASTM B564 scope lists UNS N06600. The purchaser should still state the required edition, condition, dimensions, tests, and supplementary requirements.

What maximum temperature can be quoted for Inconel 600 flanges?

No universal value should be taken from the alloy name. Verify design code, allowable stress, material condition, environment, pressure class, gasket, bolting, and project criteria.

Which Inconel 600 flange forms can be specified?

Define the required weld neck, blind, slip-on, socket weld, threaded, lap joint, RTJ, long weld neck, or drawing-based form with its complete dimensions.

Which inspection records belong in an N06600 RFQ?

State MTC, heat traceability, PMI extent, dimensions, NDE or TPI where required, marking, packing, photographs, and final release documents.
