Engineering discussion

Context before component selection.

N02200 and N02201 are intentionally separate

Nickel 200 is commercially pure wrought nickel, while Nickel 201 is a low-carbon variant selected where carbon-related behavior at elevated temperature matters. A buyer should not accept a combined 200/201 label unless the material standard, service temperature, chemistry, and project specification explicitly permit it.

Caustic-service reputation still needs process detail

Nickel 200 is considered for certain chemical and caustic process environments, but concentration, contaminants, temperature, aeration, velocity, startup and cleaning conditions all influence material performance. Provide the actual process envelope for engineering acceptance.

PMI is only one part of pure-nickel verification

A controlled release reconciles the ordered UNS grade with MTC chemistry, heat number, source material, manufacturing condition, dimensions, marking, and inspection records. State any laboratory chemistry confirmation or purchaser witness requirement where handheld identification alone is insufficient.

Standards and release

Define the basis, then document it.

ASTM B564 / ASME SB564

The current ASTM B564 forging scope lists UNS N02200. Confirm the active edition, material condition, mechanical requirements, testing, and supplementary order information.

ASME or drawing dimensions

Select flange form, size, class, facing, bore, gasket interface, and tolerances independently from the pure-nickel material route.

Temperature boundary

Do not extend Nickel 200 into a temperature regime where the project calls for low-carbon Nickel 201; verify the service limit and design basis explicitly.

Applications and next steps

Connect the requirement to the right workflow.

Buyer questions

Frequently asked questions.

Does ASTM B564 cover Nickel 200 forgings?

Yes. The current ASTM B564 scope lists UNS N02200. The order should also state edition, condition, dimensions, tests, and supplementary requirements.

Can Nickel 200 and Nickel 201 flanges be treated as identical?

No. Nickel 201 is a low-carbon variant with a different temperature-related selection context. Follow the exact UNS grade authorized by the project.

Should a buyer state operating temperature for Nickel 200?

Yes. Temperature is central to distinguishing Nickel 200 from Nickel 201 and must be reviewed with pressure, medium, code, and material condition.

Which inputs are required for a Nickel 200 flange quotation?

Provide UNS grade, ASTM route, form, dimensions, class, facing, bore, process medium, temperature, tests, documents, quantity, packing, and destination.
