Engineering discussion

Context before component selection.

S32750 and S32760 need separate grade control

Super duplex is not a sufficient order description. State the exact UNS and project grade, then reconcile it with the material standard, heat treatment, tests, and piping class. Grade substitution requires documented engineering approval.

Pressure-joint geometry must be explicit

For WNRF, WNRTJ, blind, slip-on, long weld neck, or drawing-based flanges, state class, facing, bore, gasket system, surface finish, hub or neck details, and any RTJ inspection requirement.

Metallurgical evidence is part of the specification

Define any required ferrite or phase-balance evidence, hardness, corrosion testing, heat-treatment record, NDE, and sampling plan before manufacture. Acceptance comes from the agreed records, not from generic marketing language.

TPI needs an inspection sequence

Identify document review, material verification, hold or witness points, dimensions, PMI, NDE, corrosion tests, marking, packing, and final release so the inspection agency can follow an approved plan.

Service inputs protect material-selection decisions

Provide chloride level, temperature, pressure, fluid, sour conditions, crevice exposure, fabrication restrictions, and cleaning chemistry where relevant to engineering review and test scope.

Standards and release

Define the basis, then document it.

ASTM A182 / ASME SA182

Confirm the exact super duplex grade, heat treatment, mechanical requirements, tests, and project supplementary requirements for forged flanges.

ASME B16.5

Common dimensional basis for applicable flange sizes and pressure classes, used with the piping class and material specification.

ASME B16.47 / B16.36

Apply only where large-diameter or orifice-flange scope is relevant and the project has identified the correct series or configuration.

NACE and corrosion tests

Sour-service and corrosion-test acceptance are project-specific; state the governing requirement, method, acceptance criteria, and report scope.

Buyer questions

Frequently asked questions.

What grade should be stated for Super Duplex flanges?

Use the exact approved designation, commonly UNS S32750 / 2507 or UNS S32760, together with the specified ASTM or ASME grade route.

Which product standard commonly applies to forged Super Duplex flanges?

ASTM A182 / ASME SA182 is a common route; the exact grade and supplementary project requirements must be included.

Can Super Duplex RTJ flanges be requested?

Yes, where class, flange type, groove dimensions, gasket selection, piping class, and inspection requirements permit RTJ construction.

Which corrosion testing should be specified?

Use the method and acceptance criteria stated by the project. Do not assume one IGC or pitting test applies to every order.

Is NACE compliance automatic?

No. Sour-service acceptance requires project-specific review of environment, material condition, hardness, manufacturing route, tests, and documentation.

Can third-party inspection cover PMI and final packing?

Yes. Define hold and witness points, reports, marking checks, packing inspection, and release authority before order.

What information is needed for a Super Duplex flange quotation?

Provide exact UNS, flange form, size, class, facing, bore, standards, quantity, tests, documents, packing, and destination.
